At PMA 09, Panasonic announced plans to increase its presence in the American digital camera market, and the company hopes a new high-end model will spark the growth.

The Lumix DMC-GH1 includes many high-end photography features, and it features high definition 1080p video capabilities to allow for HD movie recording. The GH1's interchangeable lens includes continuous autofocusing capabilities, giving it an advantage over other digital SLR models featuring HD video.

Panasonic introduced its first G1 model in late 2008, and it eliminated the internal mirror found in most digital SLRs, allowing for a much smaller camera body. The GH1 fits in the G1 family, and the GH1 will be available in a variety of configurations with many different accessories.

During PMA 09, Panasonic officials also discussed plans to make several changes to the company's line of digital cameras sold in the United States. The changes will primarily attempt to increase sales of Lumix brand cameras in 2009 and beyond.

Sounds like a good strategy, just one catch–they have to be able to supply enough cameras to the market so models like the LX3 aren’t back-ordered 3+ months.
