Sony's HX1 Offers Panoramic Feature

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX1 was one of the digital cameras that drew quite a bit of media buzz at PMA 09, thanks to its innovative shutter system and panoramic technologies.

The HX1 includes what Sony calls "Sweep Panorama" technology. As the photographer presses the shutter button and sweeps the area of the desired image, the technology automatically shoots several photos and stitches them together. Sweep Panorama allows for a maximum of 224-degree horizontal photos or 154-degree vertical photos.

Beyond the panoramic technology, the HX1 includes a mechanical shutter instead of an electronic shutter. The mechanical shutter allows for less distortion in certain photos, such as those with moving subjects or in low-light situations.

The cutting-edge technologies Sony has included in this model would appear to justify the buzz surrounding it. Look for the DSC-HX1 in stores in April for around $500. (Compare Prices)

I just purchased the Sony Hx1. A primary reason–after exhaustive research of cameras in this line–was the multi burst 10fps feature. However, after trying it out–I can only get clear multi burst pictures if I am outside with a lot of light.
Inside–even with a lot of light, no shadows, no flash needed, etc…–I get blurry pictures–which defeats the purpose of this feature. I was looking forward to using it inside with our kids at times–for reasons other than just being outside watching sports.
After all of my research I am surprised that no one else commented on this. Perhaps I am missing something. Anyone experience something similar?

I have not had a chance to use and/or review this camera myself yet. I read through a few reviews at other web sites, and they did not mention this problem, and I couldn’t find any mention of it at the Sony support site. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

HX1 LCD collects dust inside which is irritating. I hope Sony will come up with a solution.
