At PMA 09, Fujifilm's FinePix Real 3D System continued generating buzz among media members, many of who were receiving their first serious look at the 3D digital camera prototype.
After working on the idea for almost five years, Fujifilm introduced its 3D camera system late in 2008 at Photokina, and the company continued showcasing a prototype of the system at PMA 09. The system includes a 3D camera, 3D digital photo frame, and 3D prints.
Using two lenses and two image sensors, the 3D camera's processor then merges the images, creating a three-dimensional effect. The camera remains in the prototype phase, and there's no timetable for seeing the 3D system being made available to consumers. Fujifilm has not decided on a price.
I've compiled a more detailed story on the digital camera's 3D technology, that's available here. It's an interesting idea that may have applications for digital photography beyond the 3D aspect.
