Canon Introduces New Entry-Level Camera

Canon's new line of PowerShot Digital ELPH cameras, the SD1200 IS, provides beginner-level features in a stylish, thin camera body. For an entry-level camera with only basic features, the suggested price of the SD1200 IS of about $230 seems a little high, but past entry-level PowerShot SD models have been cameras that create good-quality images and have been worth the extra cost. We'll have to wait and see whether the SD1200 IS measures up to its predecessors.

The SD1200 IS does not offer high-end specifications, relying on good image quality instead. It includes 10.0 megapixels of resolution, a 3X optical zoom lens (35mm-105mm), and a 2.5-inch LCD. Those seeking style will appreciate the look of this model and its ultra-thin camera body, which measures only 0.86 inches. Canon's optical image stabilization (IS) works very well, too.

Canon expected to begin offering the SD1200 IS in six colors (dark gray, blue, pink, green, light gray, and orange) by the end of March. (Compare Prices)
