Samsung Digital Imaging has announced plans to aggressively boost its digital camera lineup for consumers, aiming to double its digital imaging sales by 2012.
Samsung Digital Imaging, which was launched in February, is the camera arm of Samsung Techwin. Samsung's digital imaging product sales totaled about $1.5 billion (2 trillion won) in 2008. The company is aiming for about $3.6 billion (5 trillion won) in sales by 2012.
Samsung ranked third world-wide in compact camera market share in 2009 at 10.4%.
The Korea Times also reported recently that Samsung Digital Imaging will not attempt to merge with Pentax to boost product sales, as was rumored.
