BenQ digital cameras might not be known in America -- yet -- but the company's camera models continue to grow in popularity in China.
BenQ reported a 2% share of the Chinese digital camera market in 2008, good for 10th. The company had the top market share among a Chinese-based company. Behind its new cameras, such as the DC C1220 pictured here, BenQ hopes to increase its market share to 5% by the end of this year. The company also recently announced plans to offer discounted camera prices to those living in rural China.
BenQ, founded in 2001, makes digital projectors, LCD monitors and TVs, digital cameras, mobile phones, and other electronics. As of now, BenQ products sold in the U.S. are limited to projectors and LCD monitors. It will be interesting to see whether the company eventually expands its digital camera sales into an already crowded American digital camera marketplace.
