Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W290 Review Posted

For a beginner-level camera, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W290 provides really good image quality, an area where many budget-priced cameras seem to struggle.

Sony recently sent me a DSC-W290 to test, and in my review of the Cyber-shot DSC-W290 from Sony, I found it offers beginning photographers a good value. With a street price of around $225 (compare prices), the DSC-W290 will fit in the budget of many beginners.

This camera's LCD measures 3.0 inches diagonally, and it's easy to see, even in bright sunlight. The DSC-W290 even has an underwater housing unit available as an additional accessory, the MPK-WE marine pack, which I also had a chance to review. All in all, the DSC-W290 is a great point and shoot, starter camera.

I bought an SL420 yesterday and I think without a full manual it is next to worthless. For the price of 139 dollars I think it should come with a manual. I know there is a manual on the internet but don’t want to be bothered everytime I want to find out anything to go on-line. Besides not everyone has a computer. I am taking mine back for another brand.

That’s a common complaint with today’s digital cameras. More and more camera manufacturers are looking to save a little money by not including full printed user guides in their cameras. It’s an unfortunate trend.

Be sure to let the manufacturer know of your displeasure with the lack of a full printed manual … that’s the only way this trend might change.

How can you not have a computer when you are using a digital camera? ALso, you can as the page as PDF so you dont have to go online everytime you want to check the manual.

anyways i have a SL420 and it takes great pictures. just stay away from the auto/smart modes and learn to shoot using the program mode. Also there is no shutter lag plus the design doesnt yell out cheapo camera! The sony w290 cost much greater than 229MSRP in canada, more like $299. I bought my SL420 for 130bux so there is nothing more i could ask for about this camera. I am very happy with it.
