Nikon D5000 DSLR Review Posted

Thursday October 8, 2009

One of the things that may hold back beginning and intermediate photographers from making the jump from a point and shoot camera to a DSLR camera is a fear of giving up the ease of use found in a point and shoot model. DSLR cameras require more manual control of the photos.

Such concerns are legitimate, especially for inexperienced photographers. You'd hate to make a mistake in your manual settings on an important, once-in-a-lifetime photograph and ruin it.

My Nikon D5000 DSLR review shows that this camera can alleviate some of those fears. The D5000 presents a great mixture of automatic and manual control features, giving photographers a great opportunity to make the switch, learning more about photography at their own pace.

The D5000 carries a good price (Compare Prices), and it offers an LCD that can rotate away from the camera. For those seeking a first DSLR camera, the D5000 is one of the best options you'll find.

Purchased one last week, at first I was a little intimidated by the many features. And this wasn’t my first digital SLR, but as I got more familiar with the menu, and practiced shooting with the many different settings I am now convinced that I really got more then I paid for. I do however recommend a flash unit made for this model as the built in flash, as with most built in flash are only good for close up shots due to it’s lack of power. Great camera, quick recycle time and the price is right. The swivel LCD is also a neat feature that comes in handy when shooting in a crowd.

I bought this camera a few months ago. I absolutely love it. It’s fairly intuitive, easy to use and takes great clear pictures. My favorite feature is the flip out LCD monitor. It alleviates getting into awkward positions to get a good shot.

However, you failed to mention that there’s a recall on this model. Seems that some cameras lock up and refuse to turn on. There’s some problem with the electronics. You have to send it back to them to get it repaired. So far mine has worked perfectly, but I’m wary of when it may act up on me. I’m going to have to send it in for repair, tho I’m having a hard time parting with it. If someone is planning on buying one, I’d find out if its one that’s on the recall list.

Great Camera. I’ve owned a lot of SLRs and DSLRs and nearly bought the Sony Alpha 550. TOyed with the idea of a Canon Ti but, the lenses on the Nikon are clean and clear. The ease of use is as good as my Nikon P6000 point and shoot. Recall issues have been fixed and do not affect camera anymore. Just beware of “refurbished or grey market cameras. Check with Nikon on the USA sold camera serial numbers or, just shop Costco or Amazon.
