Sony DSLR Cameras Feature CMOS Sensors

Sunday October 18, 2009

Sony's latest DSLR cameras, the a500 (pictured here) and the a550, work especially well in low-light situations, thanks to improved image sensor technologies.

Sony included CMOS image sensors and an image processor technology, called BIONZ, that reduces noise, allowing for ISO settings up to 12800.

With the a550, you can shoot up to seven frames per second, which is a feature rarely found in a DSLR camera in this price range. Both cameras also are compatible with Sony's new 32GB Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo HX memory card, which works well for storing large data files.

For the camera body only, the a500 carries an MSRP of $750, while the a550 has a $950 MSRP. Kits with starter lenses are available, too. (Compare Prices)
