With so many new digital cameras -- especially beginner-level point and shoot models -- introduced in 2010, apparently Hewlett-Packard was feeling a little left out.
HP, which hasn't manufactured digital cameras since 2007, returns to the digital camera market today, introducing five beginner-level models in conjunction with PMA 2010. The HP cameras, all of which feature 12.2 megapixels of resolution, are:
- HP CW450. The CW450 (MSRP $99) runs from two AA batteries and offers a 4X optical zoom lens.
- HP CW450t. With an MSRP of $109, the CW450t may be the cheapest touch-screen LCD camera on the market.
- HP PW460t. Along with its 3.0-inch touch-screen LCD, the 460t (pictured here) carries a low MSRP of $149.
- HP PW550. This model (MSRP $149) features the largest optical zoom lens -- 5X -- of the new HP cameras.
- HP SW450. The SW450 (MSRP $129) is a thin model, measuring 0.7 inches in thickness, thanks to its rechargeable battery.
These models will be available for purchase in the spring, according to HP. I'll have much more detail on each of the digital cameras during the next few months in my blog. In addition, HP announced three new digital camcorders today: The V1020h, V5061u, and the V5560u.
HP's previous lines of cameras, including the Photosmart family, definitely were budget models with very few high-end features. It will be interesting to see whether these HP models will be improved over the previous HP models, and how they'll stack up against the large number of new cameras announced early in 2010.
Tune back to my blog throughout the weekend as more digital camera announcements related to PMA 2010 are going to be made by other companies.
