The point and shoot digital camera market was flooded with dozens of new models in the first quarter of 2010.
That's bad news for manufacturers, but good news for the rest of us.
Canon's PowerShot A3100 IS digital camera carries an MSRP of $179.99, but you may be able to find it for less soon. (Compare Prices)
The A3100 IS offers 12.1 megapixels of resolution, a 4X optical zoom lens, a 2.7-inch LCD, and special effect modes, such as "super vivid" and "poster effect." Should you be able to find the PowerShot A3100 IS -- which is trimmed in gray and offers three body colors (blue, red, and silver) -- a bit below its MSRP, it should represent a pretty good value for beginning photographers.
