Large zoom lenses on fixed lens cameras continue to improve in performance and quality, and Fujifilm has created one of the largest zoom lenses in a fixed lens camera with its FinePix HS10, released last month.
The FinePix HS10 offers a 30X optical zoom lens, which is one of the largest you'll find. It mixes wide angle and telephoto options, with a 35 mm equivalent measurement of 24mm-720mm.
In addition, Fujifilm has installed a CMOS image sensor with the HS10, giving it the latest technology and the strongest image stabilization features available, which is important for such a large zoom lens.
The HS10 (called the HS11 in some parts of the world) offers 10.3 megapixels of resolution, a 3.0-inch LCD, and full 1080p HD video. Don't let the resolution number disappoint you too much, as the CMOS sensor should provide really good image quality.
Now for the bad news: The HS10 carries an MSRP of $499.95, making it a costly option. (Compare Prices) The HS10 has plenty of high-end features, but its equally high-end price tag nearly carries it into the price point of an entry-level DSLR.
