You've probably seen the advertisements from your local furniture or electronics stores, touting "Christmas in July!"
Digital camera manufacturers don't quite call it Christmas in July, but this is the time of year when manufacturers begin announcing their new models aimed for holiday sales. During the next several days in my blog, I'll be detailing these new product announcements.
First up: Samsung, which has announced three new cameras, each of which will be available in September. Here is some quick information on each one.
- PL200. Samsung offers 14.2 megapixels of resolution and a 7X optical zoom lens in the PL200 ($179.99 MSRP), which measures only 0.83 inches in thickness.
- ST100. The ST100 (pictured here) is another in the line of Samsung's DualView cameras (known in Europe as "2View"). The DualView cameras offer LCD screens on both the front and back of the camera. The front LCD on the ST100 ($349.99 MSRP) measures 1.8 inches, which is larger than previous DualView models, such as the DualView TL225. The 5X optical zoom lens doesn't extend beyond the camera body, which measures slightly less than 0.8 inches in thickness.
- ST600. The ST600 is another DualView camera, and it carries 14.2 megapixels of resolution, just like the ST100. The ST600 ($329.99 MSRP) and ST100 have similar specifications, except the ST600's zoom lens extends beyond the camera body.
I'll have more details on each new Samsung camera in my blog closer to their actual release dates ... and once the "Christmas in July" rush of new camera announcements has passed.
