After Ricoh acquired Pentax last year, most of us expected that some changes were coming to the Pentax lineup of digital cameras, and it took less than 12 months for some changes to be announced.
The company will no longer manufacture compact cameras under the Pentax name, as the Ricoh brand will handle the lower end of the market. The Pentax brand will push its attention toward advanced cameras, such as the Pentax Q DIL released last year and pictured here, as well as its strong line of DSLR cameras, such as the Pentax K-x.
Pentax also has been a long-time manufacturer of tough waterproof cameras, such as the Pentax Optio W90, and it's unclear at this point whether Ricoh will take over that portion of the market. It's also unclear exactly when this change-over will occur.
