In celebration of 25 years of flash memory in the marketplace, SanDisk has released a series of statistics to show just how important memory cards have become in today's ever-growing mobile device market.
In 2012, it's estimated that people worldwide will create and consume about 2.7ZB (zettabytes) of digital content. That's 20 times more than in 2005. By 2015, estimates are that people will create and consume 8ZB of digital content, which includes photos, movies, music, and documents. (One ZB is equal to about 1 trillion gigabytes, or GB.)
Much of that digital data ends up on memory cards, which are continually growing in size. With this in mind, SanDisk has begin selling 128GB SDXC memory cards, which are able to provide 45MB per second read and write speeds, which is perfect for storing high-resolution photos and HD videos. Although these 128GB SDXC cards have an MSRP of $399.99 (Compare Prices), you surely can find them for a bit less by shopping around, which means such a card may make a great holiday gift.
