Canon seems to have hit a desirable sub-$250 price point with its interesting PowerShot SX160 IS camera, which is now for sale.
The SX160 IS offers a pair of "16s" -- 16 megapixels of resolution and a 16X optical zoom lens -- that make it a powerful contender in that price range.
This Canon camera can shoot 720p HD video, and it offers a 3.0-inch LCD screen. You can operate this camera by AA batteries, which is handy with a beginner-level camera. Another nice feature is the popup flash unit, which should make the SX160 a good low-light performer.
Look for the SX160 to be available for an MSRP of $229.99 (Compare Prices) in either red or black camera bodies.
