Canon i70 Portable Printer

The Canon i70 Portable Photo Printer.

Canon

The Bottom Line

The Canon i70 Portable Photo Printer manages to print gorgeous photos, despite its compact size and light weight. If you have a Canon camera, you can connect directly to the printer and nix the computer. On the downside, it takes a while to process a print request, especially if the original image file is large. It also quickly exhausts the tiny ink cartridges that it uses. And you can't print any larger than the width of a standard 8 1/2-inch-wide piece of paper.
Pros
  • Wonderful photo quality prints
  • Light and compact
  • Direct connection with many Canon digital cameras
Cons
  • Blows through the tiny ink cartridges
  • Slow to commence a print job
  • Does not print larger than 8 1/2-inch width

Guide Review - Canon i70 Portable Photo Printer

The first print I made off this printer stunned me with its quality. It was hard to discern the difference between these photos and those you get at a photo processing lab. For someone who wants to make nice prints (even at 8x10 size), this is ideal.

It is also extremely light and compact, and slides easily into a larger laptop bag. If you have a Canon camera or camcorder with "Bubble Jet Direct" printing capability, you can directly connect the USB cable and make prints.

The negatives are merely pesky, not too troublesome, but there are cons to buying this printer. The printer does what I can only describe as fidget when you send it a print job. It moves the ink cartridge back and forth, you here the sound of machinery moving about, and you wait for it to start printing. It may print quickly, but it thinks about printing for a while.

It also consumes the ink cartridges (not always easy to find for this model either) at a rapid rate if you actually use it to print photos. The replacement cartridges aren't very expensive, but you should stock up if you don't want to run to the office supply store constantly.

Its width limit isn't as wide as a traditional printer, but something must be sacrificed for the compact size. If you want to print on wider paper, a portable printer isn't necessarily the best answer.

All in all, this is a great printer that serves two primary purposes: get great photo prints, and with a tiny, lightweight printer.
