Fujifilm Finepix S7000 Digital Camera
Guide Rating -
LCD
The Fujifilm Finepix S7000 has a large, beautiful LCD screen located on the back panel of the camera body. However, I was disappointed with its construction. Although the screen is high resolution and allowed me to see the images clearly, it is a fixed screen. I have been in many situations when I needed to swivel the screen in order to get the shot. For example, when shooting in a crowd while holding the camera over my head, a swivel screen makes things much easier.
Speed
The speed of this digital camera is faster than I expected. At first it seemed to be of average speed, until I realized that I was comparing the speed to cameras of lower resolution. Usually, stepping up the resolution increases the lag time. In this case, it was not noticeable. As I mentioned before, I was at a soccer match, and the action was very fast. I didnt take the time to clock the speed of the camera, but I didnt miss any photo ops either.
Memory
It is amazing to me that so much information can be stored in such a small place. This digital camera uses the xD-Picture card, which is an extremely small memory card. Although it's physical size is small, it has a large memory capacity.
The camera comes with a 16MB card, but cards are also available in sizes ranging from 16MB to 512MB. A microdrive can also be used with this camera to offer up to 4GB of memory space.
Power Source
This digital camera is powered by 4 AA batteries. Unfortunately, these batteries tend to be short lived. Using the LCD monitor and the zoom shorten the life of the batteries even more. They lasted through the soccer match, but then I had to replace them. For this reason I would suggest the purchase of rechargeable batteries and a battery charger. These can be purchased separately or in a start up kit which is available at the Fujifilm mall.
Included In The Box
The software that comes in the box features basic functions for photo enhancement and RAW file adjustment. It makes registration with the Fujifilm website simple. The website offers photo album space and prints ordered directly from Fujifilm that can be picked up at a local photo lab.
Also included are 4 AA batteries, camera strap, lens cap and holder, a 16MB xD-Picture card, a USB cable and an AV cable.
The Verdict
Despite a couple of disappointments, I found the Fujifilm Finepix S7000 to be a fantastic digital camera overall. Its stunning image quality, manual control and RAW file format make this camera well-suited for the artist, enthusiast and professional photographer.
