Q: I recently bought a Panasonic Lumix DMC-LS80. I love it, but I'm wondering, can this model have camera lenses added to it? ---C.
A: Conversion lenses, which are pieces of hardware that attach to fixed camera lenses of digital cameras to provide additional lens capabilities, typically are limited to advanced fixed lens cameras. Basic point and shoot cameras, such as the DMC-LS80, rarely have conversion lenses available. To check for the availability of conversion camera lenses or other lens accessories for a point and shoot camera, check your user guide.
Occasionally, a third party company will make a conversion lens that's designed to work for several camera models. However, such lenses might not fit your camera model correctly, leaving them unable to work as expected. Research any third party conversion lens carefully before spending your money.
Of course, DSLR cameras can make use of interchangeable lenses, giving them far more flexibility than even a conversion lens can provide.
