Halloween is a great time to pull out your camera and snap some pictures. Halloween pictures can capture memories of children dressed in costumes, or simply portray some of the unique images of this holiday. Here are tips for taking great Halloween pictures.

Pictures of Kids in Halloween Costumes

One of the best reasons to pull out the camera on Halloween is to get pictures of your children (or yourself and friends) in fun Halloween costumes. To be sure you get the best Halloween costume pictures:
  • Take pictures as soon as your subjects are in costume. Makeup has a way of rubbing off, and costumes have a way of getting disheveled.
  • Take the pictures quickly. Kids will be anxious to trick-or-treat, and will not tolerate a lengthy shoot beforehand.
  • Get pictures of your trick-or-treaters in action. It will probably be tough to capture good photos after dark, but you can also get other moments like them dumping their candy onto the table.

Halloween Pictures go Beyond Costumes

Remember that Halloween is more than just posed pictures of kids in costumes. Get photos of other great Halloween moments like choosing pumpkins at a patch, cutting out jack-o-lanterns, or creating Halloween crafts.

Halloween Pictures of the Details

Sometimes the nicest pictures are the ones that are most overlooked: the little details. Consider taking close-up pictures of a child's hand dipping a brush into Halloween makeup. Get a shot of the crooked mouth on the jack-o-lantern. Take a still shot of the pile of candy on the table.
