Definition: Although you might be tempted to call your camera "evil" when it fails to record a once-in-a-lifetime photo, officially, an EVIL camera is an advanced digital camera that makes use of interchangeable lenses, just like a DSLR camera. The EVIL camera, short for Electronic Viewfinder Interchangeable Lens camera, uses a mirror-less design.

Because of the mirror-less design, an EVIL camera is not a DSLR camera. An EVIL camera typically is thinner and more compact than a DSLR camera.

Some people call EVIL cameras by a different name: Digital Interchangeable Lens (DIL) cameras. Essentially DIL and EVIL refer to the same type of camera.
