FireWire

By Kyle Schurman, About.com

Definition: FireWire is the brand name for a serial bus standard that allows high-speed data transfers. The official name of the standard is IEEE 1394.

Few beginner- and intermediate-level digital cameras include FireWire connection slots. FireWire's ability to deliver data at speeds between 400 and 3200 megabits per second is more suited to extremely large digital image files and digital video files.
