Image Stabilization (IS)

Definition: Image stabilization (IS) is a digital camera technology that works to reduce blurry photos caused by camera shake. Image stabilization is available in one of three configurations.
  • Optical IS is a hardware-based type of image stabilization.

  • Digital IS is a software-based type of IS.

  • Dual IS typically refers to a digital camera that offers both optical IS and digital IS, but different manufacturers define it differently.
