Definition: Memory Stick (MS) is a type of flash memory card used in digital cameras to store data about images. Memory Stick is limited to Sony digital cameras and consumer electronics.

Sony developed MS in 1998. Memory Stick cards are rectangular, with one corner rounded. SD cards measure 50 mm by 21.5 mm by 2.8 mm (1.97 x 0.85 x 0.11 inches).

Since the development of the original Memory Stick, Sony has created numerous other types of Memory Stick cards. In fact, the original Memory Stick, limited to a 128MB (megabyte), or about 0.125GB (gigabyte) capacity, is no longer manufactured. MS PRO, which first appeared in 2003, offered faster transfer speeds and greater storage capacities, up to 32GB of storage capacity. MS PRO Duo and MS Micro both are a smaller size than MS. MS PRO Duo cards are still rectangular, although not as exaggerated in shape as the original Memory Stick. MS PRO Duo cards measure 31 mm by 20 mm by 1.6 mm (1.22 x 0.79 x 0.06 inches).

Some Sony digital cameras can use more than one type of MS, while others are limited to a specific type.
