Shooting Modes

By Kyle Schurman, About.com

Definition:

Shooting modes are various automatic modes found with point and shoot cameras that the photographer can set and that help ensure proper lighting and focus.

For example, when photographers are going to shoot nature photos, they can set the shooting mode to Landscape Mode, which will greatly increase the chances of a properly exposed photo. Macro Mode provides good close-up focus, while Portrait Mode provides good focus on the face of the subject.
