Startup Time

By Kyle Schurman, About.com

Definition: Startup time is the amount of time a digital camera requires from the time the photographer presses the power button until the camera is ready to shoot its first photograph.

Different digital camera models have different startup times, ranging from fraction of a second to four or five seconds. Digital cameras with slow startup times can cause a photographer to miss a spontaneous photo while waiting for the camera to "warm up."
