Q: Here's a strange one. I shoot with a 4-5 year old Nikon D70. Lately, the images show up in the LCD just fine, but the computer cannot find my photo downloads. They are lost photos. I've tried ... everything and determined the problem is with the camera, not the memory card. Any ideas? --P.H.
A: That is a strange problem. From your question, it sounds like you had a good handle on searching for answers to your problems with photo downloads and lost photos. (To save space, I didn't include the full list of items that you mentioned that you already tried.) You had already tried items such as formatting the memory card and checking the USB ports on your computer. I would suggest a few more items to potentially fix your photo download problem.
Try reinstalling the drivers for the camera. Check the Web site of the camera manufacturer, visit the support section, and download the driver.
While you are at the manufacturer's Web site, make sure your camera has the latest version of firmware.
Also, if the camera gives you any error messages on the LCD during downloading, it can be helpful in finding the root of the problem.
You also should check the pins on the USB cable, on the memory card, and on the slots inside the camera. Occasionally, these pins could become bent or dirty, leaving them unable to work properly, causing your photo download problem.
