Samsung is not afraid to break new technological ground with its various digital cameras released in the past 18 months, such as the DualView cameras that contain two LCDs and the new Galaxy family of cameras that blur the line between smartphones and cameras. Samsung also has begun releasing feature-rich DIL models that use interchangeable lenses, continuing its trend of offering some of the most interesting cameras in the market.
Here are the best new Samsung cameras.
There is an aspect to photography and cameras that many camera reviewers forget about -- the "fun" factor.
Cameras should work well, certainly, but they also should be fun to use, especially point and shoot cameras. With that in mind, Samsung's latest DualView camera, the DV300F, does a really nice job of succeeding on both fronts.
With its two LCD screens and Wi-Fi capability, the DV300F is perfectly built for sharing photos via social networking. This camera also shoots photos that are of a much higher quality than you'd expect to find in the sub-$150 price range.
In addition, the DV300F has 16.1 megapixels of resolution, a 5X optical zoom lens, and 720p HD video.
In my review of the Samsung Galaxy Camera, I appreciated the camera's LCD screen and menu structure. But I was disappointed in the Galaxy Camera's image quality.
Samsung appears to have fixed this problem with its Samsung Galaxy NX camera, which is a mirrorless DIL model that was recently announced. It quickly earned an award.
The Galaxy NX will have a 20.3MP APS-C sized image sensor, which is going to help you provide high-end photographs. You'll also find a 4.8-inch touch screen LCD running the Android OS 4.2, Wi-Fi connectivity, 4G connectivity, 8.6 frames per second recording, and 16MB of internal memory.
It's available now in the United Kingdom, and it should be available soon in the United States. The price is expected to be around $2,000.
Samsung is currently showing off a new model called Galaxy Camera, which will be running the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system, further blurring the line between digital cameras and cell phones.
The Galaxy Camera is expected to have a 16MP CMOS image sensor, can shoot 1080p HD video, built-in Wi-Fi, 3G or 4G support, a 4.8-inch touch screen LCD, and a 21X optical zoom lens. Those are some impressive features.
Samsung's latest smartphone and digital camera merger is an interesting option, as the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom provides a 10X optical zoom lens. The S4 Zoom has a full functioning smartphone along with a nice point-and-shoot camera.
The optical zoom, along with the right hand grip and a 16MP image sensor, give the Galaxy S4 Zoom quite an advantage over most cell phone cameras. You also can shoot full HD video with this camera, which carries an impressive 4.3-inch AMOLED touchscreen.
As I found in my Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom review, the smartphone feature of this model is a little awkward to use, because the lens housing makes it a little tough to pull the device out of a pocket in a hurry.
The Galaxy S4 Zoom, which is available in white or black, is only offered through a cellular contract with AT&T as of the time of this writing.
As with most digital interchangeable lens cameras, the NX20 is a pretty thin and stylish model that can accept a variety of lenses, like a DSLR model.
The NX20 offers 20.3 megapixels of resolution, making it one of the best high resolution cameras on the market. It also has a 3.0-inch high-resolution LCD, an electronic viewfinder, Wi-Fi connectivity, and full HD video capabilities, all in a camera body that is only 1.5 inches in thickness. (Keep in mind that adding the lens makes the camera larger in depth.)
Samsung has always done a nice job of creating easy-to-use cameras, and even an advanced model like the NX20 should follow suit.
Samsung's recently announced mirrorless NX300 DIL camera is now available for purchase, marking the first 3D mirrorless camera from Samsung.
The NX300 has a 3.3-inch AMOLED touchscreen display that also is tiltable. The NX300 offers 20.3 megapixels of resolution, Wi-Fi connectivity, full HD video recording, and 3D capabilities when paired with the new 45mm F1.8 lens from Samsung. It can use any interchangeable lenses made for NX mirrorless cameras.
Samsung's family of DIL cameras have provided some great models over the past few years, including the NX10. The latest Samsung DIL camera is now available, and the NX2000 looks like another very impressive camera.
The NX2000's specification list is certainly eye-catching. It offers 20.3 megapixels of resolution in a large image sensor, 8 frames per second in burst mode, a 3.7-inch large touch screen LCD, and full HD video recording. You can connect the NX2000 to Android and iOS mobile devices or use built-in Wi-Fi connectivity.
The NX2000 is available in pink, white, or black camera bodies and matching colors of NX lenses.
You can use a remote viewfinder app to merge the ST150F with your smartphone, allowing for remote control of this camera.
The ST150F includes 16.2 megapixels of resolution, a 3.0-inch LCD screen, a 5X optical zoom lens, and full HD video recording. Samsung is offering this model in dark blue, white, black, pink, or silver body colors.
Samsung has become a camera maker that's well known for its thin long-zoom cameras, which makes the recent appearance of the Samsung WB2100 seem a little odd.
The WB2100 has a design that more resembles a DSLR camera, with a thick camera body and a large lens housing. Even though it looks a bit different from other Samsung models, it's still a powerful option. You'll receive a 35X optical zoom lens, 16MP of resolution, full 1080p HD video, and an articulated 3.0-inch display screen.
You can make use of a variety of manual control modes with this model, too. The WB2100 is available in black, white, or red.
10. Samsung WB30F
The now available WB30F is one of the thinnest cameras on the market that offers a 10X optical zoom lens.
The WB30F measures just 0.65 inches at its thinnest point, which is pretty impressive for a camera with a mid-sized zoom range.
You'll find 16.2 megapixels of resolution, a 3.0-inch LCD screen, Wi-Fi connectivity, and 720p HD video capabilities. You also can share photos between the WB30F and your smartphone using the Smart Camera 2.0 app.
The WB30F is available in white, black, red, pink, or plum body colors.
11. Samsung WB250F
Samsung has done a really nice job of late creating thin ultra zoom cameras that give you a variety of great features, including built-in Wi-Fi. The latest model, the WB250F, is another strong camera along this line.
One of the best cameras in 2013, the WB250F includes an 18X optical zoom lens, a 14MP CMOS image sensor, full 1080p HD video recording, Wi-Fi, and a 3.0-inch touch-screen LCD. You also can download a Remote Viewfinder app to allow your smartphone as a camera display.
Look for the WB250F to be available now in black, white, red, or gun metal gray.
12. Samsung WB850F
If you're someone who just can't decide between a point and shoot camera that provides great telephoto capabilities or one that can shoot wide angle images, Samsung may be ready to come to your rescue.
Samsung's recently released WB850F provides a 21X optical zoom lens, while it also can shoot at a wide angle of 23mm, providing photographers with the best of both worlds.
In addition, the WB850F has a built-in WiFi capability, which is a nice feature for uploading a photo quickly to social networking sites.
The WB850F's other photography-related features include 16.2MP of resolution, a 3.0-inch high-resolution AMOLED screen, and full HD video capabilities.
