July 2007My Review
I love this camera. It has 6MP with a 10X or 12X optical zoom, making it a great little camera to carry with little weight. It's one of those that turns in the middle, making it easy to take photos up, down, backward, and forward.
For what it is, it is great at taking low light pictures. I had an SLR Minolta 700 with a 2.4 mm lens, and I had to give it up because it was too heavy to carry with all the lenses, etc., and a tripod I could no longer carry by myself. My friends who helped looked like pack mules. I love that it's small and that the Nikon adjusts the light and, although it took me a while to learn about the settings, and I still don't know all of them, Nikon has been very helpful.
Whatever you buy, get a second lens cap for your camera. I broke the one on my S10, just the part that locked the cap. It still closes and stays closed in the little case I got for it. I love this little camera given the parameters I had when I got it. Nikon has not come out with any camera of this type with more than a 5X optical zoom since, that I've found. Good practice camera or for reference photos for painting. I can do a lot of adjusting in iPhoto.
It's fun to use and easy to use, and I love playing with the video that is only 2X, unfortunately. I get compliments on my photos. I like the thing where it takes one photo after another about five times, and I usually get one or two good shots, at least. It's too slow for really fast sports, though, I'd think.
Camera "pros"
A good low light camera with 10X or 12X optical zoom
Helps with camera shake
It can take pictures up, down, front, or back, easily
Light to carry with a small tripod
Good flash
Good pictures when taking one photo after another with a push of a button
Camera "cons"
When taking one photo after another with a push of a button.
I suggest reading reviews of the camera from 2007 from a reputable magazine that reviews cameras or Google it. The reviews are pretty accurate.
Care must be taken when moving the lens half of the camera up, down, front, or back.
