It meets all expectations of a product from Nikon.
I upgraded from the earlier D100 model, and the extra resolution is much appreciated. The improvement in picture quality is noticeable, as this allows the production of far larger prints without the loss of print quality.
Later I will consider upgrading to a newer model, but at present, the D300 meets my needs, as currently I don't need the facility of being able to shoot video from my still camera.
Camera "pros"
In hand, it feels like a "real" camera, unlike some of the lighter and "plastic-y" cameras from other manufacturers
Camera "cons"
Plowing through the instruction manual; I know it's a necessary evil, but, being a male, I hate using them
