2004My Review
This was an amazing piece of equipment. I probably got 150,000 exposures out of it before the shutter became too unreliable for regular use.
This was the camera on which I learned to shoot, and as a freelance journalist, it allowed me to take reasonably good photos (some ended up as magazine covers and full-page shots, others were published in The Oregonian and The Portland Tribune newspapers), which helped me sell stories.
The D70 is easy to use, tough as nails, and takes good pictures with the Nikkor "kit lenses" -- 18-70mm and 70-300mm, though those have now been superceded by the 18-55VR and others. The 18-70mm was my "workhorse" lens, and I am kind opf proud to say I wore it out. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat if I could find a lightly used example.
Camera "pros"
Fast shutter speed in burst (for the price), nice resolution, reasonably fast focus. If you need a go-anywhere, workhorse camera, this is a good choice. Oh, and battery life is amazing compared to my newer D300.
Camera "cons"
None to speak of -- about the only con at this point is that you can't get them new anymore, and the newer Nikons are even better.
