I have only used the Lumix for less than one month, and I have not fully explored its manual capabilities. But, so far, I find the image quality to be excellent, the screen very sharp, and the handling easy. The GPS works, but the locality identification sometimes is off.
Construction quality is very good, compared with my Canon PowerShot S640, which has a flimsy battery/picture card door that broke. The Lumix body chassis appears to be made of alloy, and the tripod socket has steel bushing.
Focusing at telephoto range (up to 16X) takes a while, perhaps a tripod will help.
I am a long time Nikon SLR and Leica M3 user. In digital I have had old Nikons, Canons, and now also a Nikon Coolpix L100. With this Lumix, I am spared the weight of the Leica (like a brick) and the tons of lenses of the Nikon SLR. Even the Coolpix is too bulky.
