December 2006My Review
I got this camera because I was really my missing old SLR, and I was not getting enough out of my point and shoot digital, even with a 10X zoom. But I couldn't afford to spend $1,500, so the camera store manager suggested this. I think it was a good compromise.
I also have a 18-50mm lens, and a 50-200mm (not by Pentax) zoom. This camera has worked out well. Lighting is a primary problem with any camera, and I wish I had a bounce flash at times, but it does have a small built-in flash on top that is usually adequate, if you need a flash. I have heard the debate about the batteries, and it has been bothersome for me at times, as the indicator isn't very reliable about telling when the batteries are really depleted. Just remember to always have spares on hand -- it uses 4 AA batteries, and, if you are using rechargeables, maybe two pairs of spares! Then you are prepared.
Camera "pros"
It is fairly easy to operate, there seems to be plenty of after-market lenses and flashes available, and I have used this camera four years, having one repair on it, due to a crack in the LCD screen (covered by store warranty).
Camera "cons"
My brother has a Nikon DSLR, and I do notice a difference in picture quality -- his photos look sharper and clearer.
