July 1, 2011My Review
The reviews of the camera itself lured me into purchasing the Sony NEX-5. I am taking my "Bucket List Trip" consisting of 6 weeks in Europe and wanted the lightest possible camera and lens. Unfortunately, Sony's offerings are limited to a 16mm; an 18-55mm and an 18-200mm. My belief is the public would have been better served if they had opted for a 50mm to 200mm or 300mm. It would have been lighter and cheaper. Speaking of cheaper, be prepared to pay for everything! For example, with the 18-200mm lens you will need a flash extender. It does not come with the lens, even though you will pay over $850 for the lens. While they charge $62.50 for the extender, it likely only cost them $5 to make. Get the idea? To get the flash extender, I spent over an hour and a half on the phone being bounced from one department to another, often without warning only to have to start my story all over again. The Sony Store, especially the customer service department, does not have its act together. If you do order from them, remember to insist on getting the reference number for your conversations. Will I keep the camera and extra lens? Only time will tell. For now, I suggest you hold off unless you need to buy now and, if that is the case, is there a better choice?
Camera "pros"
It is light and takes a fresh approach.
Camera "cons"
Don't buy from the Sony Store, as they don't have their act together. Their people do not know their product, and the design has too much of an overlap.
