Did You Find a Camera? Or Did You Lose a Camera?

Lost a Canon EOS Rebel XSI camera contained in a Lowepro camera bag

Describe the Camera, Such as Brand/Model/Color.

Canon EOS Rebel XSI, black, with a Canon strap attached

Does the Camera Have Any Identifying Marks?

The camera was contained in a black Lowepro sling bag, and the camera was in its black protective body armor and had a Canon strap. There was also an external flash, two other lenses, one extra battery and charger, small tripod, manual, other small accessories, and set of keys inside the bag.

How Should the Camera's Owner / Finder Contact You?

We especially want the memory card (with family photos and pics from our friend's wedding) and the keys back!

When Approximately Was the Camera Found / Lost?

Lost Sunday morning, Oct. 30, 2011, between 9:15 and 11:00 a.m.

Where Exactly Was the Camera Found / Lost?

We last saw our Lowepro bag during our layover at the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. After we landed in Phoenix, we went to the food court at the Phoenix Sky Harbor Int'l Airport Terminal 4 to order some coffee and snacks at Wendy's and sat down at the adjacent seating area. We had several items that we were carrying along with the camera bag, and we are usually very careful about keeping a close eye on all of our items whenever we travel. It was not until we got to our seats on the plane that we noticed it was missing and panicked. My husband ran back out to check the areas we were at, and sadly the camera bag (containing our camera, accessories, and keys) was gone.

We've been calling the Lost and Found department at PHX daily, but nothing has been turned in. We also checked with the Wendy's at Terminal 4 and Southwest, and they said they haven't had any bags turned in with a Canon SLR camera. We still hope that someone honest turned it in and it just hasn't made it to the Lost and Found yet.

Lessons Learned

  • Make sure to always put a sturdy ID tag on all carry-on bags (on the outside and inside of the bag), especially a camera bag
  • Put an ID label on all electronic items with contact information in case of loss
  • Make sure to double check that you have all your items before you leave
  • Try to make sure to transfer photos at the end of each day (the camera and other items can be replaced, but our photos from our trip can't never be replaced)
