Do You Still Use the Camera?

I still use my original digital camera. I bought it in October 2009.

Do You Remember the Camera's Price?

The camera's price was $160.00 -- a good price.

Describe a Favorite Photo Shot With That First Camera

I took a wonderful portrait of my mom for Valentine's Day of 2010. I sent it via gmail to all her brothers and sisters.

My First Digital Camera's Brand, Model, and Specs

My first digital camera is a Fuji S1500 extended. I really like it. It has auto modes, a panorama mode, movie mode, and manual modes. It has 10MP and 12X extended. It has a CCD sensor, but at this price being even low for an extended I don't mind. This will be my camera for some time. I am not sure if I will step up to a CMOS sensor camera. I don't computer adjust my photos. It seems to be a deep camera with a lot of features. I am still learning about its functions. I shoot about 2 hours a day. The AA alkalines last about 10 days. I have no complaints about my purchase and am happy.

Why, How, and When I Switched From Film to Digital

I had a 35mm Nikormat purchased in 1970. I used it for several decades. But its weight was its chief drawback. I like to hike so I simply used fixed lens 35mm or 110 format point and shoots. I broke or lost several of these cameras. I went into digital because it is less expensive to do captures with, and I can gmail them to my friends and family, instead of snail mailing the photos to them.

Lessons Learned

  • The chief thing I learned was that a lot of research pays off in getting the camera you really want. I researched on the internet by reading professional reviews and user reviews. I used many different websites. And, I compared the reviews to one another. I also read about photographers and their experiences with their cameras to learn what important digital features to look for and what features were not that important or relevant. I then comparison shopped extensively. I visited online retailers, big box stores, and camera shops. I finally bought from a camera shop so that I would have someone to turn to.

Those are great tips - sounds like you really did your homework ahead of time. Glad to hear your switch to digital has gone so well!
