Do You Still Use the Camera?
I now use a DSLR, but on occasion I pull out the C-8080 and have some fun
Do You Remember the Camera's Price?
No, but it was expensive at the time, but well worth it
Describe a Favorite Photo Shot With That First Camera
Shooting iguanas on Little Cayman. With the articulating view screen, I could place the camera on the ground close to the iquana and zoom in, frame the shot, and then press the shutter release button. With a water proof housing, shooting barracuda close up was possible and a lot of fun.
My First Digital Camera's Brand, Model, and Specs
Olympus C-8080, 8 megapixel, 3X zoom and articulating view screen. Fantastic camera, fantastic image quality. It was big, but it felt good in my hands. It's the camera I used when leaning the basics of photography.
Why, How, and When I Switched From Film to Digital
Close to ten years ago I had the opportunity to use a new digital camera where I worked. The only problem was it was 3 megapixel, but I saw the future and it wasn't in film. Ease of use, instant verification of image quality and ability to shoot and shoot and shoot until I captured the image I wanted was now a reality. Not having to buy and process film was a real motivator.
Lessons Learned
- There isn't a down side to digital
- To stop limiting myself on the number of images I take at an event
- If I can imagine an image, I most likely can find a way to set up my equipment and capture the image
- I was told the biggest difference between a pro and an amatuer is the size of their recycle bin, which I've since confirmed is true.
- I wasn't afraid to ask the pros for help and it paid off. They typically enjoyed sharing their knowledge of photography with me, and I learned a lot.
- Find like minded individuals and stay in touch with them.
- There is always something new to learn, which I enjoy
