Do You Still Use the Camera?
I still use my E-10, though not as much as I used to.
Do You Remember the Camera's Price?
It retailed for $2,000, but I got a package deal online for $1,800.
Describe a Favorite Photo Shot With That First Camera
I was taking pictures of my girlfriend at a beach in Galveston, Texas. I had her sitting on a large rock, at the water's edge. There were small waves mostly, but one huge wave broke against the rock, framing her in a wall of foam, droplets and spray. That was right before it drenched her.
My First Digital Camera's Brand, Model, and Specs
Olympus E-10 DSLR, 4 megapixels. Hey, it was top of the line back then.
Why, How, and When I Switched From Film to Digital
As a semi-pro shooting part time, I was still using film. When my last 35mm broke down, it was going to cost almost as much to fix it, as to buy a new digital. I was dragged kicking and screaming into the digital age, and I don't regret it. At that time, I still had my Mamiya 645, medium format film camera for shooting weddings and portraits. But, eventually I went pure digital and sold the 645.
Lessons Learned
- I'll never buy another fixed lens camera. Before the E-10, all my 35mm cameras had multiple lenses that I could switch between them. Although it was said that 35mm camera lenses would work on digital, I heard about all the problems with the auto-focus lenses. I got spoiled on auto-focus, though I do use manual sometimes in special circumstances. I have found that after market lenses just don't match the quality of brand specific lenses, that were made specifically for your kind of camera. I doubt I'll get back into professional photography, but if I did I'd stick to either Nikon or Canon SLR's.
