"A Summer Night Storm"

What Type of Camera and/or Lenses Did You Use?

I have a Canon T2i. I used a 24-105L/F4 lens. I have a multi-coat filter on the end of this lens.

What Was the Weather Like? What Was the Lighting Like?

The weather was stormy. There was quite a bit of lightning and very little rain. I was able to walk along the shoreline and look out at the lake and wait for the lightning in the background to try to take the shot. It took several attempts at this. I did not have my tripod with me at the time. I had to hold my camera steady. But I finally got the shot I was hoping to get.

Advice

  • I would have brought my tripod with me and used it. I was trying to handhold my camera, which is hard to do near dark.

If You Remember, What Were the Camera's Settings?

My camera settings were: F-stop was f4, ISO was set to 3200, shutter speed was 1.6.

What Type of Planning Was Needed to Set Up This Photo?

No planning. I just showed up at the right time as the storm was approaching and took a few shots.

Why Is This One of Your Favorite Photos?

I love this picture because I caught the lightning at the right moment.

What Did You Learn About Photography With This Photo?

Be patient and wait for the shot.

Kyle Schurman, Digital Cameras Guide, says:

That would have been a tough photo to shoot holding your camera by hand! Nice job!
