What Was the Weather Like? What Was the Lighting Like?
When I stayed on Bois Blanc Island in Michigan, it was a breath of fresh air. I've never felt closer to nature and its natural habitat. The weather was very diverse. Some days the weather was bright, sunny, and warm. Other days, the weather was chilly, cloudy, and windy. I never use flash in my pictures, because I feel it takes away the natural effect of the pictures. When there was a lighting issue, I just adjusted the lighting and I got creative and I covered the lens with my own sunglasses! :) All of my pictures are outdoors, what better way to get a feel of the island. My stay was tremendous on this island, I have never been there before, and it was an unpredictable adventure that was better and better every day. The low population of 100 made the trip secluded and closer to everyone, basically everyone knew each other on this island. I called them "island hicks." I just pulled out my camera every good opportunity I had. I never let an interesting shot go to waste.
Advice
- I would not have done anything differently. All I suggest is that you don't use flash, flash just changes colors and removes the natural effect of the picture, and may ruin what you saw. I also have an interesting tip to give your photos an interesting, more antique, tint. Just simply put your own sunglasses over the lens and take a picture through them. I got many interesting photos that way ... and I loved it!! :)
Why Is This One of Your Favorite Photos?
This is one of my favorite photos because it reminds me of when we tried to row this boat onto the lake and failed miserably! We ended up falling into the freezing lake and becoming drenched. Also this photo tells a story and shows the life on the island ... fishing!! :)
What Did You Learn About Photography With This Photo?
I learned that even the most un-interesting things that people usually ignore can become interesting by a different point of view in a picture. :)
