What Type of Camera and/or Lenses Did You Use?

I used a Fujifilm camera.

What Was the Weather Like? What Was the Lighting Like?

It was a hot summer day. It was taken near the dunes behind the beach in Queens, N.Y. The sun was shining brightly, so the lighting was great. I did not need to use the flash for this photo. The lighting was pretty perfect, so I was glad that I did not need to edit it on my computer. I just left it how it was.

Advice

  • Put the camera setting on natural light
  • Do not use the flash
  • Make sure to focus the camera on the object so it doesn't come out blurry
  • I do not wish that I did anything different

If You Remember, What Were the Camera's Settings?

It was on scene recognition and natural light.

Why Is This One of Your Favorite Photos?

Because it always reminds me of summer and how beautiful nature is. I love it because it shows every little detail of the butterfly, and it just makes me happy.

What Did You Learn About Photography With This Photo?

I learned that when you want to take a picture of nature, you have to be quick -- but focused -- because the conditions can change so fast. Please give your honest opinion about this photo because I am teenager, and I would like to see if I am good enough to make a career out of photgraphy.

Kyle Schurman, Digital Cameras Guide, says:

Nice shot! My primary "suggestion" would be that this would've been a good photo to crop more tightly to the butterfly, really making it a close-up, so the detail on its wings is easier to see. You also could have moved closer, although that risks spooking the butterfly, or zoomed in a little closer, rather than cropping the photo later. Your exposure appears to have turned out pretty well, which isn't easy in bright sunlight, so that's great. Another thing to think about with close-up photos like this is to make sure the subject stands out from the background, which it does here with the yellow in the wings versus the green leaves.
