Goodbye, Hello

What Type of Camera and/or Lenses Did You Use?

Nikon Coolpix, 12.0 megapixels

What Was the Weather Like? What Was the Lighting Like?

It was a sunny afternoon around 5 o'clock, out in the deserted beach in my hometown Vinzons, Camarines Norte, in the Philippines, called "Halabang Baybay," part of the Calaguas Group of Islands. The scene was perfect, so I used natural lighting, availing of the "sunset" setting in my Nikon Coolpix camera. I was just taking the pictures, candidly, during the supposed sunset photography session as part of our Calaguas Tour organizers' schedule. While waiting for my turn to be photograph, I played with my camera and noticed for the first time the "sunset" setting. I wanted to try it by taking lots of pictures, either with zoom in or zoom out, since I was far from the water edge.

Advice

  • I should have come closer to the edge of the water, rather than availed of the zoom lens feature of my camera, for better quality of the sunset reflections on the water.

If You Remember, What Were the Camera's Settings?

I believe it is sunset setting.

What Type of Planning Was Needed to Set Up This Photo?

None, it was candid.

Why Is This One of Your Favorite Photos?

Because it has a lot of drama -- sunset crossing the horizons, leaving reflections on the water, in contrast to the lovers, who are waiting in to join hands.

What Did You Learn About Photography With This Photo?

A good sunset photograph requires the other elements other than the sunset -- like water and figures in silhouette for effects.
