First things first: The Pentax X70 digital camera is not a digital SLR model. It might look and feel like a digital SLR, and it might carry a few high-end features, but it's not a digital SLR. Because it's not a digital SLR, Pentax can offer it for around $400, which is a good thing for beginning photographers looking for a more advanced model at a reasonable price.
Pentax calls the X70 a "megazoom" model, and it's tough to argue with that designation, thanks to this digital camera's 24X optical zoom lens, equivalent to a 26-624mm lens. With 12.0 megapixels, the X70 has plenty of resolution for most photographers.
It is larger than most point-and-shoot models currently on the market, but the X70 remains easy to use. The X70 doesn't carry the manual-control features and interchangeable lenses that you'll find on digital SLRs.
Pentax announced the X70 just ahead of PMA 09. The X70 should be available for purchase in April, with a suggested price of about $400. (Compare Prices)
