Haier may be new to the American digital camera marketplace, but that isn't stopping the company from introducing competitively priced models aimed at beginners, starting with the waterproof DC-A20.
The DC-A20, with an MSRP of $129.99, will operate in water up to 9.8 feet in depth. Otherwise, the DC-A20's features are below average, with 9.0 megapixels of resolution, no optical zoom, and a 2.5-inch LCD. It also cannot shoot video.
The DC-A20 is very small for a camera that runs from disposable batteries (2 AAA batteries), measuring only 0.96 inches in thickness. It is rare to see a waterproof camera in this price range, so, if you need a thin, inexpensive waterproof camera, the DC-A20 is worth considering. For those wanting a more general camera, though, the DC-A20's features are lacking compared to other low-priced models.
Look for the DC-A20, along with the other Haier cameras announced at CES 2010, to be available for purchase in the next few weeks. Haier America recently sent me an A20 as a test unit, and I'll let you know how well it works when I publish a review in the next few weeks.
