"Tough" cameras -- those that can survive a fall or work underwater -- are beginning to appear with more frequency. Panasonic has announced two such cameras in 2010, including its most recent tough model, the Lumix TS10.

The Lumix TS10 can be used in water up to 10 feet in depth, can survive a fall up to 5 feet, and will work in temperatures as low as 14 degrees Fahrenheit. The TS10 camera body is also sealed tightly to protect against dust.

The camera's photography specifications are a little below average for its price range, although the tough features add to the TS10's value. You'll find 14.1 megapixels of resolution, a 4X optical zoom lens, a 2.7-inch LCD screen, and 720p HD video options with this model.

The TS10 should be available now in blue, black, red, or silver at an MSRP of $249.95. (Compare Prices)

Earlier this year, Panasonic announced the Lumix TS2, which is another tough camera. Some other tough cameras announced this year include: The Olympus Stylus Tough 6020, Olympus Stylus Tough 8010, Pentax Optio W90, and Sony Cyber-shot TX5. If you're someone who likes to use his or her camera in harsh environments -- or if you just have clumsy fingers -- a tough camera might be a good investment.

Panasonic has also joined up with Leica, a German company, to produce digital cameras. These lenses help capture very clear and bright photographs as I have seen on other cameras as well.
