Definition: AMOLED, short for active matrix organic light emitting diode, is a type of display technology that is thinner and brighter than LCD technologies, and that is beginning to appear in digital cameras.
OLED can be placed on flexible and thin surfaces, and it is considered more rugged than LCD. Active matrix OLED refreshes its screen more often than passive matrix OLED while using less power, which makes AMOLED a good choice for mobile electronics devices.
One disadvantage to some AMOLED screens is that they are not as easy to see in direct sunlight as are LCD screens, which can be a concern for digital cameras.
The Samsung TL320 was one of the first point and shoot digital cameras to use an AMOLED screen.
