I came kicking and screaming into the digital camera market. I waited for a long time until the digital cameras rated better, like a film camera. I have traveled extensively overseas and carried two camera bodies and three lenses with bricks of film. I purchased this little Canon PowerShot A540 and couldn't have been happier with my first digital camera. I wanted to go small before going with a full DSLR, and this little camera was great!
The macro I think is still remarkable for a small camera. I have printed photos and even with the 6MP of resolution, the 8x10 photos were really excellent. It's a little noisy at slow speed and high ISO but not terribly bad. I liked this camera so well that I purchased two other used A540s on eBay, because I wanted a backup. It's an excellent little camera and is very flexible using the manual setting. I couldn't have asked for a better first camera.
