Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 DIL CameraApproximate date of purchase:
August 2010My Review
The GF1 has an excellent build quality, it is compact, and it offers interchangeable lenses. It is capable of producing excellent images, if you know your basics well. As far as possible, I always use a tripod, and I avoid apertures that cause diffraction (I try not to use f/11 or smaller openings). It is also capable of good video quality, but if one wants better video, one should try the later models from Panasonic.
Do note that ILCCs (DILs) are not made to compete with DSLRs, although they are quite capable of doing that. With ILCCs, you get convenience with image quality that is close to that from DSLRs.
Camera "pros"
Excellent image quality. It allows me to make 20 x 30s with beautiful colors and tones, with excellent sharpness. Viewers sometimes doubt whether the images have been shot with this camera, and I often have to show them the EXIF data.
Camera "cons"
1. Having a smaller sensor (Micro Four Thirds), it cannot compete against a DSLR in terms of dynamic range or noise control.
2. The 100-300mm lens (equivalent to 200-600mm in the 35mm format) has difficulty in achieving autofocus in low light/low contrast.
