November 2006My Review
I have been an active photographer for over 50 years and have used this camera regularly for work, personal, and to document various public, church and community service agency events and activities. I selected Sony because I previously used Minolta Maxxum 9 and Maxxum 7000 cameras, and my Maxxum lenses, flashes and accessories (e.g. cable release) are fully compatible. Also chose it over Canon, Nikon, etc., as offering comparable features at a lower cost, and it better fit my hands -- to include access to features -- than competitors. The view screen failed about six months after purchase (something I did?) and Sony repaired quickly under warranty at no cost & no questions asked (no such luck with a Kodak pocket digital). Camera did develop problems with electronics last year and has since been repaired / fully restored. My next camera will be a Sony Alpha 900/700/77.
Camera "pros"
The Sony has proven a reliable workhorse that gives consistent results. Camera battery provides yeoman service for a significant number of exposures. I carry multiple batteries and memory cards. Camera has stood up well to heavy duty handling and use, both in and out doors.
Camera "cons"
Camera is fully featured -- it's hard to remember all of its capabilities, but the owners manual provides a useful refresher on its options. The Sony may seem a bit small for someone with really, really large hands, as oppposed to a camera like the Canon.
